Our Services
Restoring balance to the muscles of the face, mouth, and throat.
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a specialized exercise-based program that retrains the muscles of the face, mouth, lips, tongue, and throat. These muscles play a critical role in breathing, chewing, swallowing, speaking, and the resting posture of the tongue and jaw.
When these muscles are not functioning optimally — due to habits, structural factors, or compensatory patterns — it can affect far more than oral health. Poor oral muscle function has been linked to sleep-disordered breathing, postural imbalances, TMJ dysfunction, orthodontic relapse, and even chronic fatigue. OMT addresses these patterns at their root through targeted, progressive exercises tailored to each individual.
At Akasha Health, OMT is offered by Brooklyn Cook, a Registered Dental Hygienist with specialized training in orofacial myofunctional therapy. Brooklyn works with both children and adults, creating personalized programs designed to build lasting change in function and quality of life.
